Ex-racer-turned-entrepreneur Bob Jane dreamed of an F1 race in Melbourne. He developed a huge ‘thunderdome’ and created the AUSCAR series, ‘delivering’ NASCAR action to Australia. In 1992 Jeff Kennett was elected the new premier of the State of Victoria. He straight away set about developing Melbourne’s profile. First on his list was the Australian GP. An agreement was reached with Formula 1 in 1993, however the contract with Adelaide wouldn’t reach its expiration date until 1995. So in 1996 the Australian Formula 1 relocated to Melbourne to stunning Albert Park, where the F1 circuit was smooth with no 90 degree street corners to decelerate the racing cars. It runs clockwise around a lake, and the surroundings is electrifying. Melbourne circuit is popular among the F1 drivers drivers. It has 16 corners (left:6 and right:10) : Jones, Brabham, Lauda, Marina, Clark, Waite, Hill, Ascari, Stewart, Prost.
Concerning Australian F1 victories, Michael Schumacher and McLaren are the most successful racing driver and team respectively. After Michael Schumacher’s retirement, David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella will be the only drivers to have started each and every Melbourne race.

The Australian GP will be the second F1 race of the 2010 F1 Championship Season, with every one of F1 drivers longing for a chance to do just what Jenson Button did in the second to last race of the 2009 formula season. He won the driver’s championship and he also helped his team, Brawn GP to win the constructors championship. Ten teams participated last year and it was the very first season for Brawn GP which was important simply because no team had actually won the constructor’s championship previously during their first appearance on the F1 circuit.
The next live Formula 1 race to happen after Australian GP will be the Malaysia GP in Kuala Lumpur, on April 2nd and till April 4th. The next F1 race to follow is the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai at a later date in April. The final race of the F1 championship this year will be the same as it was a year ago, the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 GP, and it is scheduled to be on November 12th through the 14th at the Yas Marina Circuit. First and Second Practice for the Melbourne Grand Prix will be held on March 12th with the third practice the next day along with qualifying at 17:00 local time.
The live F1 race will take place on Sunday, March 28th. The drivers will have to race 58 laps on a 5.303 kilometer circuit. The total race length is 307.574 kilometers at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. In 2009 season, Jenson Button and Brawn-Mercedes won this live F1 race but this season we’ll have to see how it goes with your own eyes.
